Record Attempt

The attempt is still on - watch it here

The test days at Millbrook proved that the car simply cannot achieve the speeds needed at this venue. We are looking for larger diameter tracks, that will allow less tyre scrub and greater flat out potential

The original Bonneville salt flats 10 mile radial circuit is now no longer available due to ecological concerns so a new record attempt venue has to be sought. It has to be able to sustain a 24 hour record attempt and FIA time keepers also have to be available.
Millbrook proving ground in the UK can was booked for August 16th 2008 with the relevant authorities and FIA time keepers but its surface and tight circumference proved too costly in terms of outright speed.
But the record attempt is on, we are looking at other venues that might be suitable.

Jeremy Welch commented

“The project is going well. We want this to be as faithful to the original as possible but also a very capable car that can actually do the job.

After all we need to be running in excess of 140 mph.
So far I am very pleased with its progress but the real truth will come at record time, until then we have to work hard to develop our knowledge of every bit of the car and the circuit. We will be keeping those interested fully abreast of our progress.”

In the world of land speed records there is only one way to determine a record breaking car and that is, to quote Jackie Cooper in his narration of the 1953 record attempt film “you just put it on the line and let the car do the talking”
